Empowering Vision and Hearing at SOS Children’s Village – A Heartfelt Initiative by WISH Foundation and Wickramarachchi

On May 3rd, 2025, the WISH Foundation, in collaboration with Wickramarachchi Opticians & Hearing Care, proudly conducted a vision and hearing care program at the SOS Children’s Village, Piliyandala. This outreach was part of the “Pitch 2 Pitch” campaign, supported by the New Zealand High Commission, aiming to deliver essential health screenings to underserved communities.

A total of 139 children and caregivers received professional eye and hearing check-ups. Among them, 13 individuals were identified as needing prescription spectacles, while 105 were gifted UV-protective sunglasses to promote healthy vision. On the hearing care front, 16 individuals were referred for further audiological testing, and 8 were advised to undergo earwax removal. One elderly individual was referred for vestibular balance assessment due to symptoms of imbalance.

The event was conducted with the full support of the SOS Village team and graced by esteemed guests including His Excellency David Pine, High Commissioner of New Zealand.This initiative not only addressed immediate health needs but also emphasized the long-term vision of equitable access to quality eye and hearing care in Sri Lanka.
